About the Artist
UNSEEN LEGENDS Some legends are famous. Others are simply waiting to be heard. Unseen Legends explores daily life, human values, philosophy, literature, and the evolving relationship between human creativity and algorithmic music. With the spirit of poets in every line we sow, the Chelsea Hotel stands at the crossroads of American literary and musical folklore. Its rooms and corridors became part of the story of writers, poets, artists, and musicians, from Mark Twain and the literary world of Jack Kerouac’s On the Road to Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. Here, perhaps more than anywhere, memories become legends and legends become songs. Algorithmic composition predates artificial intelligence by centuries. Eighteenth-century musical dice games combined prepared passages through chance. The Musikalisches Würfelspiel, K. 516f, traditionally attributed to Mozart, although its authorship remains uncertain, is a famous example. Unseen Legends continues that tradition through contemporary synthesis and algorithmic composition. This is not music by a machine pretending to be human. It is human storytelling expressed through a new musical instrument: the algorithm. The words carry the thought. The music carries the words. The human gives them purpose. Some are remembered. Some are forgotten. Some have yet to be heard. Unseen Legends gives them a song.
